Soft Washing vs Pressure Washing a Roof

Pressure washing a roof is very dangerous and ineffective. When pressure washing a roof at 3500-4000 PSI, you run the risk of damaging the tiles, cement, or granules on an asphalt roof. This can leave thousand of dollars in damage if a roof needs to be replaced. Pressure washing does not kill the algae inside the pores of the tiles and/or shingles. Because of that, the algae will grow back within months of it being pressure washed.

Soft washing is very safe and effective. Soft washing a roof allows the chemicals to get into the pores and kill the roots of algae, leaving the roof algae free for years. We apply a mix of chlorine, water, and a surfactant at a very low pressure of 70 PSI compared to 4000 PSI.

STEP 1. PLANT PROTECTION

To ensure our mix does not burn any bushes or plants, we first water all plants and bushes beforehand. After the plants are wet, we install plastic tarps to cover any bushes or plants where gutters are not present above. Once the tarps are installed, we then bag every single gutter downspout to prevent any of our roof mix from reaching the grass or any plants.

STEP 2. PROPERTY PROTECTION

We also utilize a chlorine neutralizer, sodium thiosulfate. Sodium thiosulfate is used in many industries to neutralize chlorine, from shampoos to your own pool. We spray this on all tarps and any other area needed.

STEP 3. SOFT WASHING YOUR ROOF

We spay a blend of 50/50 chlorine and water. As well as a surfactant that helps the mix penetrate and effectively clean your roof. The results are instantaneous.

STEP 4. RINSE & NEUTRALIZE

The final step to cleaning your roof, is rinsing off and neutralizing any overspray from cleaning your roof. We then remove any tarps or gutter bags from the bushes and downspouts.
